House of Prayer Edmonton (HoPE) is a parachurch ministry that seeks to glorify Jesus through worship and cover the Edmonton region in prayer. Everyone is welcome to drop in and join us in our corporate prayer meetings. Our morning prayer meetings usually have 10-15 people and our evening prayer meetings have anywhere from 15-20 people in attendance.
In our prayer meetings you will experience three different expressions of prayer: worship, devotional prayer and intercession. We worship Jesus because He is worthy of our adoration and praise. During worship you can either sing, pray or read the Bible or journal. When we do not have a worship leader available for our prayer meetings, we utilize the web-stream from the International House of Prayer in Kansas City.
During devotional prayer we corporately look into God’s Word. The prayer leader will pick a short passage for us to meditate and pray on together for approximately 30 minutes. Devotional prayer is different from intercession, in that our focus is using the Scripture passage as a foundation for a prayerful conversation with God; our focus is to pray for ourselves, based on the selected passage. During this time people take turns coming to pray on the microphone about what God is stirring in their hearts from that passage.
In our times of intercessory prayer, the prayer leader will choose a topic for us to pray on. Common topics include: local pastors, churches, youth and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The prayer leader will begin by praying for the selected theme from a passage of Scripture (we like to base our prayer out of Scripture, making it easy for other to agree with). They will then open up the microphone for others in the room to come up and pray along the selected theme. During this time if we have a worship leader they may join the spoken prayer being said on the microphone by singing a prayer to God.
That covers the basics of what you will experience in our prayer room. Look up our prayer room hours here and come by and check it out. It’s a drop-in style so you do not have to be there from start to finish. You are welcome at any time.
We look forward to seeing you!
